To be honest, I’m biased. I’m biased for great and complex storytelling, like one would expect from writers of Inception, and I’m biased about Nitin Mishra. I love his writing.
Yagya, wasn’t my first read which contained his writing, but it’s the one I see most potential in. As the possibilities of expansion in different directions are still very high.
Yagya revolves around a few things. And instead of a being like a novice juggler, failing to keep up, it balances between them perfectly.
The first element of this beautiful act called Yagya is – Pragya Parashar, daughter of Prashant Parashar. She wants to be a comics writer, just like her father.
The second element is the shady side of Goa culture, the drug mafia. I found my favourite named character here – Satka Anna.
Coming to art. It’s as per standard and justifies the story. My only complain, or should I say favour, is English version of Issue #2 cover art, while I decided to stick with Hindi one.
There’s a club action sequence in Issue #2, which gets me excited everytime I go through it.
The line works on both the issues are beautiful, and the colouring makes it a treat to go through these comics at their given size.
The only minor error I found was, that in Hindi version, page 4 of Issue #1, comics label named writer as “Prateek Parashar” whom Pragya calls as “Papa”, while in Page 5 itself, it is revealed that her Dad’s name is “Prashant Parashar”.
Dialogues are fun and adjusted as per locality, which makes reading it as more pleasant.
Overall, a highly recommend read, especially if you’re into multilayered series.
